Until further notice we are UNABLE TO ACCEPT any Red-eared Sliders (RES) or box turtles. Please also note that it is illegal to release any animal previously held in captivity into the wild, or into any waterway. Box turtles in particular rarely survive if released.  Wildlife Rescue is not accepting any RES, and the Rio Grande Nature Center does not allow any turtle or other animal to be released onto their property.Unwanted and abandoned turtles and tortoises are accepted at the Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department, 8920 Lomas Blvd NE, ABQ, 87112, 505-768-2000. They currently are closed Mondays.
